Our Commitment
Northern Mister Sparky is committed to making this website usable for everyone, including people with disabilities. We design and build to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, the global standard for accessible web content.
What We’ve Built In
- Semantic structure. Every page uses landmark elements (header, nav, main, footer) so screen readers can navigate the site by region.
- Keyboard navigation. Every interactive element (links, buttons, forms, the mobile menu, the city/ZIP search) is reachable and operable with only a keyboard. Tab through the page or use a screen reader’s element rotor.
- Skip-to-content link. Press Tab once from the top of any page to reveal a “Skip to main content” link.
- Visible focus. Keyboard focus is indicated with a thick yellow outline against a black box-shadow ring for high visibility on every background.
- Color contrast. Body text meets or exceeds 4.5:1 contrast against its background. Bold display text meets the 3:1 large-text threshold. The bright Mister Sparky yellow is reserved for accents, badges, and large display CTAs - never small body text on white.
- Alt text. Photographs and meaningful icons carry descriptive alt text. Decorative icons are marked
aria-hidden="true"so screen readers skip them. - Reduced motion. If your operating system requests reduced motion, scroll-triggered icon animations are disabled automatically.
- Resizable text. All text uses relative units, so increasing your browser zoom up to 200% reflows the layout without losing content or breaking functionality.
- Form labels. Every input has a programmatically associated label, and required fields are marked both visually and with
requiredso assistive tech announces them.
Known Limitations
- The interactive 3D Mapbox map on the homepage and Areas We Serve page is primarily visual. The full list of communities we serve is presented as plain text directly next to the map, fully keyboard-accessible and screen-reader friendly.
- Our embedded Wufoo contact form is a third-party iframe and inherits Wufoo’s accessibility features. If you have trouble with the form, please call us at 763-200-5956 and we will take your information by phone.
